The Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has taken the first procedural step in hearing challenges to Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election by displaying two petitions filed against the outcome of the August 15 governorship poll.
Among the petitions is one instituted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, who are seeking to overturn the election result.
The petitions were posted on the tribunal’s notice board in Osogbo on Monday, signalling the formal commencement of proceedings.
The APC’s petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, lists Governor Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as respondents.
Another petition, filed by Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola and marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, names Governor Adeleke, INEC and the Accord Party as respondents.
Ahead of the posting, the tribunal secretary, Pefe Belemore, had indicated that the petitions would be displayed before noon, while staff of the tribunal secretariat were seen preparing for the commencement of activities.
The display of the petitions is a statutory requirement in election petition proceedings and does not amount to a determination of the cases.
The respondents are expected to be served with the petitions before the tribunal begins hearing arguments from all parties involved.
Governor Adeleke, however, remains the validly declared winner of the August 15 governorship election unless the tribunal rules otherwise.
The specific grounds upon which the petitions are based have yet to be made public, and the tribunal has not issued any ruling on either matter.
