The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidates from four states have decamped to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The defectors are from Zamfara, Plateau, Taraba and Jigawa states. They said they had joined the APC to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Renewed Hope Agenda.
The delegation was led by Dr. Princess Aslam Aliyu from Zamfara State. During the meeting at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, the group expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership and said they believed he remained capable of taking Nigeria to greater heights.
Welcoming them into the party, The National Chairman of the APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, commended the defectors for what he described as putting the country’s interest above personal political ambitions.
“I warmly welcomed them into the APC family and commended them for placing what they consider the broader national interest above personal political ambitions,” he said.
The APC chairman told the new members that joining the ruling party should go beyond changing political platforms.
“I told them that joining the APC is not merely about changing political platforms, but about becoming active participants in building a stronger party and contributing to the development of our nation,” Yilwatda said.
He urged them to return to their wards and communities to begin grassroots mobilisation in support of the party.
“I therefore urged them to return to their respective wards and communities and immediately commence grassroots mobilisation, assuring them that their contributions would be recognised and their decision communicated to President Tinubu,” he added.
