The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised concerns over reported staff redeployments in key departments of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party said the reported changes affected the Electoral Operations and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) departments, which play major roles in conducting elections.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC alleged that some officials from northern states were removed from strategic positions and replaced with officers from Lagos and other South-West states.
The party called on INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, to publish the list of affected officers and explain the reasons for the redeployments.
It also asked the commission to disclose the criteria used in making the postings.
The ADC said it was not accusing INEC of any wrongdoing but maintained that the reported changes had raised legitimate public concerns.
According to the party, openness and transparency are necessary to reassure Nigerians that the electoral process will remain impartial and free from political or sectional influence.
The party stressed that public confidence in INEC depends on fairness in both its administrative and operational decisions.
It noted that the Electoral Operations and ICT departments are responsible for handling critical aspects of election planning and technology.
The ADC added that the production, custody and distribution of sensitive electoral materials must remain above suspicion to protect the credibility of future elections.
The party urged INEC to provide a clear and evidence-based explanation to reassure political parties and Nigerians as preparations for the 2027 polls gather momentum.
