The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Friday commissioned a pedestrian bridge built by Dunamis International Gospel Centre across the ten-lane Airport Expressway in Abuja.

Wike praised the Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Dr. Paul Enenche, and his wife, Dr. Becky Enenche, for funding the project as part of the church’s corporate social responsibility.

He said the bridge would improve public safety and showed that private organisations could support government efforts in providing critical infrastructure.

“Government cannot do everything. There is no way anywhere in the world that the government carries out every single function,” Wike said.

The minister announced that the FCT Administration would refund 50 per cent of the cost of constructing the bridge to encourage more partnerships with private organisations.

He directed the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, to work with the church to determine the project cost and process the refund and other pending approvals.

Wike also urged residents to use the pedestrian bridge instead of crossing the busy expressway to reduce accidents and save lives.

He disclosed that the church first applied for approval in 2018, but the permit was granted within one month after the request was brought to his attention in February 2026.

The minister said the speedy approval reflected President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to delivering infrastructure in the FCT through effective leadership.

He added that many criticisms of the current administration on social media were politically motivated and advised Nigerians to support leaders with proven capacity.

Earlier, Dr. Paul Enenche thanked the FCT Minister for approving the project after years of delay and said the church completed the bridge within four months after receiving approval. He said, “Posterity and what we are remembered for is more important than prosperity.”

Also speaking, Benue State Deputy Governor Dr. Sam Ode, FRSC Sector Commander Tijani Ilyasu and Dutum Managing Director Mr. Runsewe commended the project, saying it would improve road safety and further demonstrate the ability of Nigerian firms and faith-based organisations to contribute to national development.
