African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has narrated how he and members of his team were allegedly attacked in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, claiming that the incident was part of a planned attempt to intimidate him during his political activities.
Sowore, in a statement on the incident, said the alleged attack occurred on Friday, October 30, 2026, after he had attended a media engagement in the state.
He claimed that he had earlier visited MIDAS 90.5 FM in Ado-Ekiti, where he participated in a one-hour interview between 12 noon and 1 p.m., before leaving the station ahead of the alleged assault.
According to him, information available to his team suggested that some individuals had gathered around Fajuyi Park while allegedly preparing to attack him at the radio station.
Sowore said his team left the area before those allegedly mobilising for the attack could complete their plans, adding that they were later followed as they moved through the city.
He alleged that the attackers eventually confronted him and his team at Tawakalitu Restaurant in the Dalimore area of Ado-Ekiti, where members of his team were assaulted.
The AAC candidate claimed that one of those involved in the attack was Ayodeji Akintade Ifeoluwa, whom he described as the bodyguard of Sunday Dayo Asefon, a former President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Student Engagement.
Sowore also named Sola Adenijo, popularly known as Solar, whom he alleged was one of the coordinators of the attack.
He further claimed that his sources linked Asefon and the Managing Director of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Oyetunde Oladimeji Ojo, to the incident.
Sowore alleged that Ojo, who is married to Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, daughter of President Bola Tinubu, was connected to the mobilisation of some individuals allegedly involved in the attack.
He also claimed that security officials had earlier raised concerns about his safety during his political engagements in Ekiti State.
According to him, an activist, Moyinoluwa Olowoyo, popularly known as Gigabytes, was warned that his safety could not be guaranteed if he participated in political activities involving Sowore in the state.
Sowore further alleged that discussions were held concerning his planned participation in the Ikogosi Marathon, claiming that efforts were made to prevent him from taking part in the event.
He accused some security personnel of either accompanying or assisting the alleged attackers, adding that the claims were based on accounts from eyewitnesses.
However, the Ekiti State Police Command gave a different account of the incident, with the Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, describing it as an altercation and stating that those involved sustained minor injuries.
Sowore has continued to demand an investigation into the incident, insisting that those responsible should be identified and brought to justice.
The development has attracted attention because of Sowore’s political activities and his continued criticism of government policies and institutions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sowore, who contested the 2019 and 2023 presidential elections under the platform of the African Action Congress, has remained a prominent voice in Nigeria’s opposition politics.
