Edo State is set for a new aviation direction following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the state government, China Express Airline and KDN Aero for the proposed Edo Air project.
The partnership represents a major move by Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration to establish a state-owned airline that will improve transportation links and promote tourism.
Announcing the development, Okpebholo said the airline would help open Edo State to more economic opportunities while making air travel easier for residents.
He said, “This initiative is about more than owning an airline; it is about creating jobs, boosting tourism, attracting investment, expanding business opportunities and making air travel more accessible for Edo people.”
The governor said better connectivity would allow Edo to compete more effectively by attracting visitors, businesses and investors.
Edo State is known for its rich cultural heritage, historical sites and growing commercial activities. Government officials believe improved air access could further support tourism and business growth.
Okpebholo said the project would also strengthen connections between Edo and other parts of Nigeria and beyond.
“It will also strengthen connectivity and open new economic frontiers for our state,” he said.
The governor reaffirmed that his administration remains focused on creating development opportunities that directly impact residents.
“Our goal is to build an Edo State where opportunities abound, businesses thrive and our people directly benefit from development,” he added.
With the MoU signed, expectations are now building around the planned launch of Edo Air as the state moves towards becoming a stronger player in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
