The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has called for improved welfare, housing, pension and increased funding for personnel of the Nigeria Police Force to enhance operational efficiency and boost morale among serving and retired officers.
Disu made the appeal on Wednesday during a visit to the Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam, in Abuja, where both officials discussed key issues affecting the Force, including operational priorities, personnel welfare and infrastructure development.
The IGP thanked the minister for his continued support to the Police Force and appealed for sustained intervention in critical areas, particularly infrastructure, housing and funding, to improve the Force’s capacity to effectively tackle security challenges across the country.
He also drew attention to pension and welfare concerns affecting serving and retired police personnel, stressing the need for continued engagement to achieve lasting solutions that would improve the living conditions of officers after years of service.
Disu further briefed the minister on the Force’s preparations for the 2027 General Elections, revealing that personnel training was already underway. He said measures were also being put in place to address the security needs of persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups during the electoral process.
According to him, sustained institutional support would further strengthen the Police Force’s readiness to provide adequate security before, during and after the elections.
Responding, Gaidam described the visit as timely and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the operational development and reform agenda of the Nigeria Police Force.
The minister commended the IGP’s leadership and emphasized the importance of intelligence-led policing in addressing the country’s security challenges. He also highlighted ongoing interventions aimed at improving police infrastructure, personnel welfare, pension administration and insurance arrangements.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police Affairs, Dr. Anuma Ogbonnaya Nlia, welcomed the IGP and his delegation, assuring them of the ministry’s continued administrative support.
He noted that stronger collaboration between the ministry and the Police Force would help identify priority needs, improve service delivery and enhance public confidence in policing.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Ministry of Police Affairs to improve personnel welfare, strengthen operational capacity and enhance the protection of lives and property across the country.
