Eight Zamfara State lawmakers who recently resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) have returned to the ruling party after meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House, ending speculations that they were set to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The lawmakers were led to the meeting by the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, and resolved to remain in the APC and work for the party’s success ahead of the 2027 general election.
Also at the meeting was a member of the House of Representatives, Aminu Sani Jaji, as party leaders intensified efforts to strengthen unity within the APC in Zamfara State.
The lawmakers had quit the APC a few weeks ago, fueling reports that they were planning to join the ADC as political activities gather momentum ahead of the next general election.
However, after discussions with President Tinubu, they abandoned the planned defection and agreed to return to the APC, while efforts continue to address the issues that led to their resignation.
Their return is seen as a major boost for the ruling party in Zamfara as political parties begin to realign ahead of the 2027 elections.
The lawmakers are Aliyu Ango Kagara (Talata Mafara South), Ibrahim Tukur Bakura (Bakura), Faruk Musa Dosara (Maradun I), Bashir Abubakar Masama (Bukkuyum North), Muktaru Nasiru Kaura (Kaura North), Nasiru Abdullahi (Maru North), Bashar Bello (Bungudu West), and Bashar Aliyu (Gummi I).
The development is expected to strengthen the APC’s political structure in Zamfara and reinforce ongoing reconciliation efforts within the party.
The return of the lawmakers is also seen as an early victory for President Tinubu and APC leaders as they consolidate support ahead of the 2027 presidential and general elections.
