Vice President Kashim Shettima will declare open the 22nd All Nigeria Editors Conference of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), on Thursday in Enugu.
A statement signed by its President and General Secretary, Eze Anaba and Onuoha Ukeh, said the two-day conference has as its theme, “The Ballot, the Media and the Task of Keeping Democracy Alive,” and the sub-theme, “When Lies Look Real: Detecting and Debunking AI Disinformation Before, During and After Election.”
The statement said the Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah is expected to address the conference which is expected to attract more than 500 editors alongside government officials, academics, civil society representatives and other stakeholders.
It noted the Obi of Onitsha, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, will chair the conference, while former Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, will deliver the keynote address.
The Guild said the conference will examine issues around democracy, elections, press freedom, artificial intelligence and disinformation, while seeking practical pathways for strengthening democratic governance and responsible journalism.
