A dramatic scene unfolded at a court in Anambra State after a serving lawmaker, Hon. Udemezue, was ordered remanded in custody over allegations of rape involving a 24-year-old woman.

The lawmaker, popularly known as Isi Enyi, reportedly broke down in tears after the court delivered the remand order and allegedly attempted to escape from custody before he was later arrested by security operatives.

The incident occurred during proceedings relating to allegations that the lawmaker sexually assaulted a young woman who had visited him.

According to police documents and sources familiar with the investigation, the case began after the victim allegedly accused the lawmaker of taking her to his private residence instead of her intended destination and assaulting her.

The allegations further stated that the victim sustained injuries during the reported incident after resisting the alleged attack.

Following the commencement of investigations, police authorities reportedly invited the lawmaker several times, but he allegedly failed to honour the invitations and later left Anambra State.

Security agencies subsequently declared him wanted before he was eventually arrested and brought before the court.

During Thursday’s proceedings, tension reportedly rose after the magistrate ordered that the lawmaker be remanded pending further legal processes.

The lawmaker allegedly became emotional, pushed past court officials and security personnel, and fled from the courtroom area into a nearby bush in an attempt to avoid custody.

The escape attempt reportedly triggered a security response, with operatives pursuing him around the court surroundings before he was eventually re-arrested.

He was later taken under tight security to the Awka Correctional Centre, where he remains in custody pending the continuation of the case.

The matter is expected to proceed through the legal process, with the lawmaker presumed innocent until proven guilty by the court.
