A disagreement between two neighbours in Mowe, Ogun State, has ended in tragedy after a 38-year-old man, identified as Mike Oje, reportedly lost his life following an alleged attack over his interaction with a three-year-old child.
According to reports, the incident started when Oje was seen hugging and playing with his neighbour’s young child. The child’s father was said to have become upset, accusing Oje of engaging in what he considered “rough play.”
The disagreement reportedly attracted the attention of other residents in the area, and the situation later turned violent. Some neighbours allegedly picked up a bamboo stick and attacked Oje.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Friday.
Babaseyi said Oje collapsed during the alleged assault due to the severity of the beating and later died from injuries sustained in the attack.
He added that the suspect reportedly fled the area with his family after discovering that Oje had died and was believed to be hiding at an unknown location.
The police have commenced investigations into the incident as efforts continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death and bring those responsible to justice.
