Troops of the Joint Task Force, South East, Operation UDO KA, have uncovered an alleged arms cache in Azia Community, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, recovering five firearms in a targeted raid.
The operation, according to the Nigerian Army, followed the arrest of suspected arms racketeers who allegedly provided information on the location where the weapons were being kept.
In a statement shared on its official social media platforms, the Army said the suspects disclosed that the firearms were in the custody of the owner of Prince Bar in Azia Community.
Acting on the information, troops moved swiftly to the location and arrested the bar owner, identified as 31-year-old Ikenna Oklie, popularly known as “Big Star”.
The Army said preliminary interrogation of the suspect led to the recovery of three pump-action guns and two locally fabricated firearms, bringing the total number of recovered weapons to five.
It added that the successful operation was part of ongoing efforts by Operation UDO KA to disrupt illegal arms trafficking networks and prevent criminal elements from gaining access to weapons capable of threatening lives and public safety.
The military has continued to intensify operations across the South-East region as part of measures aimed at tackling insecurity, including the activities of criminal groups involved in arms movement and other violent crimes.
