The Federal Government has released N38.93 billion to 166 public tertiary institutions nationwide to upgrade infrastructure and improve teaching and learning facilities.
The intervention, under the Needs Assessment Revitalisation Fund, covers 79 universities, 46 polytechnics and 41 colleges of education.
This was disclosed in a statement issued yesterday in Abuja by the Head of Media, Federal Ministry of Finance, Mrs Efe Ovuakporie.
According to the statement, universities received the largest share of N28.5 billion, while polytechnics got N5.8 billion and colleges of education got N4.7 billion.
The Ministry said the funds would enable beneficiary institutions to commence or continue approved projects aimed at addressing critical infrastructure gaps and other identified needs.
It added that the disbursement forms part of the Federal Government’s efforts to address the funding needs of public tertiary institutions and implement agreed measures under the Memorandum of Understanding between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The Ministry stressed the need for effective coordination among the Federal Ministries of Finance, Education and beneficiary institutions to ensure the funds translate into tangible improvements in educational infrastructure.
It advised members of the public seeking details of beneficiary institutions and individual allocations to visit finance.gov.ng
