Insecurity: Peter Obi Reacts To Abduction of 20 NYSC Members, Demands Swift Rescue

2027 presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, has expressed concern over the reported abduction of about 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, calling on security agencies to secure their immediate rescue and bring those responsible to justice.

Obi said the incident highlights the growing insecurity across the country and warned against accepting such attacks as a normal part of life in Nigeria.

In a statement posted on his official social media page on Sunday, the former Anambra State governor said the young Nigerians were on their way to begin their national service when they were reportedly kidnapped.

> “The abduction of approximately 20 prospective NYSC members travelling to their orientation camp is yet another distressing indication of the worsening insecurity in our country. These young Nigerians were preparing to serve their nation, but they were unable to travel safely on our roads. Families are increasingly burdened by the fear that their loved ones could fall victim to kidnapping.”

Obi said the development has added to the worries of many Nigerian families who now fear for the safety of relatives travelling across the country.

He stressed that safeguarding the lives and property of citizens remains the government’s primary responsibility and urged authorities to take stronger measures to address insecurity.

> “Protecting lives and property is the government’s foremost responsibility. We cannot continue to regard insecurity as an ordinary occurrence or act only after people’s lives have been disrupted.”

The former governor also appealed for urgent action to rescue the victims safely and prosecute those behind the abduction.

> “I call for the immediate and safe rescue of all the abducted corps members and the arrest of those responsible. Nigeria must become a country where young people can travel, work, and serve their nation without fear.”
