Lagos Police Take Action Against Inspector After Viral Video Sparks Public Outrage

The Lagos State Police Command has begun disciplinary action against an inspector captured in a viral video making controversial remarks while travelling in a public vehicle.

The Command identified the officer as Inspector Osumah Frank, saying he has been subjected to internal disciplinary procedures in line with the regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Command clarified that the officer spoke in his personal capacity and that his comments should not be taken as the official position of the Lagos State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force.

The statement said: “The Command has commenced appropriate disciplinary action against the officer in line with established regulations of the Nigeria Police Force; it also wishes to make it clear that the statements made by the officer were made in his personal capacity and do not represent the position, views or official disposition of the Lagos State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force.”

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reminded officers that they are expected to display discipline, professionalism and respect in every interaction with members of the public.

He said: “All personnel are expected to maintain professionalism, civility, discipline and respect for members of the public at all times.”

The commissioner further stated: “Wearing the Police uniform comes with a responsibility to uphold the dignity and integrity of the Force, and that the Command will not condone any conduct capable of bringing the Force into disrepute or undermining public confidence in the Police.”

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability, adding that it would continue to uphold policing founded on humility, integrity and public trust.
