The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed all its state chapters to stop collecting money from support groups seeking registration, declaring that the process is free and exclusively handled by the party’s national headquarters.
The directive followed reports that some state chairmen were allegedly demanding registration fees from support groups across the country.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director Esq, the NDC dismissed the practice as unauthorized and urged affected groups to deal only with its Directorate of Support Groups in Abuja.
The statement said, “The registration of support groups is free. It does not attract any fee whatsoever.”
The party further clarified that the Directorate of Support Groups is the only body empowered to process registrations.
According to the statement, “The registration of support groups is the exclusive prerogative of the Directorate of Support Groups. Therefore, all inquiries and registration must be directed to the Directorate of Support Groups at the National Headquarters of the party in Abuja.”
The NDC stressed that no state chapter, officer or party official has been given the authority to register support groups or collect money on behalf of the party.
It stated, “No State Chapter, officer, or official of the party is authorized to register support groups or collect money for that purpose under any guise.”
The party warned that any official who ignores the directive would be sanctioned in line with its constitution.
It added, “Any violation of this directive will attract appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with the constitution of the party.”
The NDC also reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with its support groups, saying they remain important partners in expanding the party’s grassroots presence and electoral strength.
It noted that the Obidient and Kwankwasiya Movements, alongside other support groups, would continue to enjoy the party’s support as it prepares for future political engagements.
The statement said, “The NDC cherishes the support and partnership of all support groups, including the Obidient and Kwankwasiya Movements, and will continue to create an enabling environment for them to work for the victory of the party at all levels.”
