Ogun Police Arrest Two Over Student Hostel Robbery, Recover 11 Stolen Phones

Ogun State Police Command have foiled a robbery attack on a student hostel in the Eruku/Agbon area of Ewekoro Local Government Area, arresting two suspected robbers and recovering 11 stolen smartphones, a laptop and other valuables.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abeokuta, describing the operation as a major breakthrough in the Command’s efforts to safeguard students and residents across the state.

According to the statement, the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, September 13, 2026, at about 2:40 a.m., following an anonymous distress call reporting that an armed gang had invaded a student hostel and was robbing occupants.

Babaseyi said officers from the Ewekoro Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), responded immediately to the emergency.

He explained that on sighting the approaching police team, the suspects abandoned a school bag containing the stolen items and attempted to flee.

“The operatives gave the suspects a hot chase and successfully arrested two of them, identified as Waris Dauda and Tiamiyu Abiodun,” the police spokesman said.

Items recovered from the abandoned bag included 11 assorted iPhones, one HP laptop and several items of clothing. The victims later identified the recovered property as belongings stolen during the robbery.

Preliminary investigation further revealed that the robbers forced one of the victims to transfer ₦200,000 into a bank account during the operation.

Police detectives subsequently visited the scene, documented evidence of forced entry into the hostel and secured all recovered exhibits.

Babaseyi said search warrants executed at the suspects’ residences did not yield any additional incriminating items. However, the suspects and all recovered exhibits have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.

He added that security operatives have launched a manhunt for other members of the gang who escaped during the operation, while efforts are also underway to identify and apprehend the owner of the bank account that received the stolen ₦200,000.

The police spokesman noted that the swift response by officers demonstrated the Command’s commitment to rapid emergency response, student safety and community-oriented policing.

Commending the operatives, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised their professionalism, vigilance and timely intervention.

The police commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s determination to rid the state of criminal elements and assured residents, particularly students, of sustained efforts to guarantee their safety.
