The value of billionaire businessman Tony Elumelu’s indirect stake in Seplat Energy rose by ₦163 billion in a single trading session on Thursday, pushing the investment to an estimated $1.36 billion (₦1.80 trillion).
The sharp increase followed a 10 per cent rise in Seplat Energy’s share price, which closed at ₦14,907.80 on Thursday.
Through Heirs Energies and Heirs Holdings, Elumelu controls 120.4 million shares, representing 20.07 per cent of Seplat Energy, making him the company’s largest disclosed shareholder. He is also set to become Seplat’s chairman on January 1, 2027.
The latest rally added ₦163 billion to the value of the holding in one day. The same stake was valued at ₦1.63 trillion on Wednesday and ₦1.48 trillion on September 1.
Since June 30, when the investment was worth ₦1.37 trillion, its value has climbed by about ₦427 billion, reflecting the sustained rise in Seplat’s share price.
Heirs Energies and Heirs Holdings acquired the 20.07 per cent stake from Maurel & Prom on December 31, 2025, in a deal valued at approximately $500 million.
Just eight months after the acquisition, the same 120.4 million shares are now worth an estimated ₦1.80 trillion, highlighting the remarkable appreciation in the value of Elumelu’s investment.
