Portugal forward Rafael Leão will wear Cristiano Ronaldo’s famous No. 7 shirt for the country’s next two international matches after the veteran left the national team camp.
The Portuguese Football Federation confirmed the temporary change, with Leão replacing his usual No. 17 jersey.
Ronaldo’s departure from camp created the opportunity for the shirt to be reassigned. Although the switch is only for two matches, it is a significant moment in Leão’s international career.
The AC Milan star will now wear one of the most famous shirt numbers in world football as Portugal continues its campaign.
Officials said the arrangement is temporary and does not mean Leão has permanently inherited the iconic jersey. Ronaldo has worn the No. 7 shirt for most of his Portugal career, helping the country win major honours and becoming its all-time leading scorer.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner remains Portugal’s most celebrated footballer, making the No. 7 shirt a powerful symbol of his remarkable legacy.
