The Nigerian Army has graduated a new Special Forces battalion after six months of intensive training at the Special Forces School in Doma, Nasarawa State.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, said the newly trained battalion would strengthen the Army’s counter-terrorism operations and improve its ability to tackle emerging security threats across the country.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony on Friday, Shaibu said the Special Forces would play a key role in combating terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes.

He noted that the battalion had received specialised training to respond to modern threats, including the use of drones and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The Army Chief explained that the expansion of the Nigerian Army from eight to 12 divisions made it necessary to develop more specialised units to improve operational readiness.

He said the new Special Forces battalion would help dismantle terrorist and criminal networks while supporting ongoing military operations nationwide.

Shaibu urged the graduands to remain disciplined, professional and committed to their constitutional responsibilities.

He also charged them to respect human rights, rely on intelligence-driven operations and work closely with other security agencies in carrying out their duties.

The Nigerian Army has continued to strengthen the capacity of its personnel through specialised training as part of efforts to improve national security and address evolving security challenges across the country.
