Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has asked Nigerians facing economic hardship and insecurity to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and use their votes to bring about change.
Atiku made the call in a post on his official X account on Wednesday, where he highlighted the struggles many families are experiencing due to the rising cost of living and security challenges.
He said ordinary Nigerians are finding it difficult to cope as the cost of food, transportation, housing and other essential needs continues to affect daily life.
“My fellow Nigerians, young and old, I know the pain you are carrying,” Atiku said.
The former vice president said many parents now live with worries about feeding their children, while pensioners face tough choices between buying medicines and providing food.
“Parents go to bed worried about what they will feed their children tomorrow. Pensioners must choose between buying medicine and buying food. Young people work hard, yet transport, rent and basic needs consume what they earn,” he stated.
Atiku also pointed to the growing fear caused by kidnapping, attacks and other security threats across the country, saying Nigerians should not accept hardship and insecurity as their reality.
“No family should have to face hunger and insecurity at the same time. We cannot allow this hardship and fear to become the future our children inherit,” he said.
He urged registered voters to collect their PVCs and keep them safe ahead of the 2027 general election, describing the card as a means for citizens to make their voices count.
“If you are a registered voter, please go and collect your PVC. Hold on to it. It is your voice, your choice and your peaceful power to demand change,” Atiku said.
Atiku, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has continued to criticise the economic situation in the country while positioning himself ahead of the 2027 election.
Blaming the current administration for the rising cost of living, Atiku said, “Bola made life expensive. I will work to make life affordable again and restore the security every Nigerian deserves.”
He called on Nigerians across different age groups to unite and support his call for a country where families can live with dignity, safety and hope.
