Davido’s manager, Asa Asika, has described the Afrobeats superstar as one of the most influential Nigerians under the age of 40, citing his huge global following, social media reach and strong influence on brands.
Asika, who has worked closely with Davido’s career, said the singer’s popularity goes beyond music, noting that his personality and public presence have made him a major force in entertainment and business.
Speaking about Davido’s influence, Asika said, “Davido is probably the most influential person from Nigeria below the age of 40, in my opinion.”
He added that the singer’s dominance on social media was difficult to challenge, saying, “no argument,” when discussing Davido’s large online following and describing him as “probably the most followed artist on almost every social media platform.”
According to Asika, Davido’s level of popularity is so significant that he often jokes with the singer about his unique position in society.
“You do know you’re kind of like the president of Nigeria,” Asika said he tells Davido while highlighting the singer’s influence among millions of Nigerians and fans worldwide.
The music executive also explained that Davido’s strong connection with his audience has helped him overcome controversies that might have damaged the careers of other public figures.
“There are some things I’ve seen Davido do and be like, if someone else did this, they would never ever get back from this. Sometimes I’m like, yeah, it’s over. I don’t know how we’re going to bounce back from this. And everybody wakes up tomorrow morning and they’re like, yeah, nothing happened,” he said.
Asika further described Davido as “a walking billboard”, saying many companies seek partnerships with the singer because of the attention and visibility his brand attracts.
“I have emails from brands being like, I just want Davido to like hold this bottle for 20 minutes or put in his video,” he said.
He revealed that some brands have supported the production of Davido’s music videos because of the massive exposure associated with the singer.
“I haven’t paid for music videos with our own money in ages,” Asika said.
The manager explained that Davido remains careful when choosing brand partnerships, preferring collaborations that appear natural and align with his image.
He mentioned partnerships with global brands such as Martell, Puma and a Chinese phone company, which entered into a 10-year deal with the singer despite him not using the brand’s phone.
Asika said the partnership helped place Davido’s image on major billboards across African cities, including Abidjan, Mauritius and Tanzania.
With millions of fans across the world, Davido has remained one of the leading figures in Afrobeats, helping to expand Nigerian music’s influence on the international stage.
