Three suspects have been arrested by the Nasarawa State Police Command over the alleged use of a forged identity card of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), while an unregistered Lexus IS 250 vehicle was also recovered in Lafia.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Rahman Nansel, disclosed that operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit intercepted the vehicle during a routine patrol around Bukan Sidi, Lafia, with three occupants identified as Mohammed Umar, Mohammed Nuhu and Ibrahim Suleiman.
According to the police, Mohammed Nuhu identified himself as an ICPC officer and presented an identity card purportedly issued by the anti-graft agency during the stop-and-search operation.
The statement said suspicion arose after the driver, Mohammed Umar, failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the ownership of the unregistered Lexus, leading to the arrest of all three suspects for further investigation.
Police investigations later revealed that the ICPC identity card presented by Mohammed Nuhu was allegedly forged. The suspect reportedly told investigators that he accompanied the driver from Kaduna State to Lafia because the driver did not possess a valid driver’s licence.
Further profiling by the police also linked the third suspect, Ibrahim Suleiman, to an alleged unlawful group identified as the Eiye Confraternity.
The command said the three suspects remain in custody while investigations continue to establish the ownership of the vehicle and determine whether other criminal offences are connected to the case.
The police added that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, CP Shetima Jauro Mohamed, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to proactive policing, intelligence-driven operations and sustained efforts to rid the state of criminal activities.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies to strengthen the fight against crime and enhance public safety across the state.
