Lionel Messi continued to rewrite football history after scoring his 930th career goal with a brilliant free-kick in Inter Miami’s 2-2 draw against San Diego FC in the Major League Soccer (MLS) on Sunday night.
San Diego took the lead in the 12th minute through Anders Dreyer. Messi restored parity 12 minutes later with a superb curling free-kick from the right side that went past everyone, struck the post and rolled into the net.
The goal was another milestone for the 39-year-old Argentine. It was his 20th MLS goal this season, his 101st for Inter Miami and the 75th direct free-kick goal of his remarkable career.
Inter Miami went ahead in the 74th minute when Luis Suárez converted a pass from Rodrigo De Paul. However, Dreyer scored again eight minutes later to secure a point for San Diego.
The draw means Inter Miami have now gone four straight MLS matches without a victory. Despite the dropped points, Messi once again stole the spotlight with another memorable performance.
The latest goal came just four days after the football legend scored his 100th goal for Inter Miami in the club’s 2-0 Campeones Cup victory over Cruz Azul. It also moved him to 930 career goals, extending his incredible legacy.
Messi is now just 70 goals away from reaching the historic 1,000-goal milestone. His latest achievement also adds another exciting chapter to his long-running scoring rivalry with Cristiano Ronaldo.
