Moses Simon has become the fifth player in Nigeria’s history to make 100 appearances for the Super Eagles, reaching the milestone during Friday’s 2-1 victory over Madagascar in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo.
The 30-year-old winger joined an elite group of Nigerian football greats that includes Ahmed Musa, Vincent Enyeama, Joseph Yobo and Alex Iwobi.
Simon first wore the Super Eagles jersey on March 25, 2015, when he made his senior debut against Uganda at just 19 years old. More than a decade later, he remains one of Nigeria’s most reliable players.
His journey to 100 appearances has been built on consistency, hard work and determination. Over the years, he has remained a regular member of the national team despite changes in coaches, teammates and fierce competition for places.
Since making his debut, Simon has played under several Super Eagles coaches, adapting to different styles and generations of players while maintaining his place in the squad.
Before reaching the landmark, he had scored 12 goals in 99 appearances. He has also featured prominently in major competitions, including the Africa Cup of Nations and FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
After Nigeria’s victory over Madagascar, the Super Eagles honoured Simon with a framed jersey bearing the inscription “SIMON 100” to celebrate his achievement.
Although the presentation was simple, it marked a memorable moment for a player whose commitment to the national team has lasted more than 11 years.
Simon now adds his name to the list of Nigeria’s centurions, with his remarkable journey serving as a testament to his dedication, resilience and lasting contribution to the Super Eagles.
