Oluremi Tinubu Advocates Compassion, Community Support as World Marks International Day of Charity

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged Nigerians to strengthen the culture of charity and volunteerism, saying compassion and generosity remain vital to building a society where everyone has a sense of belonging.

In her message marking the 2026 International Day of Charity, the First Lady described the annual observance as a reminder of the shared responsibility to care for those facing hardship and to inspire hope through selfless service.

She noted that acts of charity, regardless of their size, have the capacity to positively impact lives and contribute to a more inclusive society.

“As the world marks International Day of Charity 2026, we are reminded of the power of kindness, compassion, and generosity in building a more caring and inclusive society,” she said.

Emphasising that charity extends beyond financial assistance, Tinubu said it is rooted in empathy and a willingness to support others in difficult times.

“Charity is more than giving; it is about extending a helping hand, restoring hope, and supporting those in need. Every act of kindness, no matter how small, can make a meaningful difference in the life of another,” she stated.

The First Lady appealed to Nigerians to continue reaching out to the poor, vulnerable and less privileged through acts of generosity and community service, stressing that collective efforts are essential to tackling poverty and promoting social inclusion.

“I encourage Nigerians to continue to embrace the spirit of giving and volunteerism, particularly towards the vulnerable and less privileged. Through our collective action, we can help reduce poverty, strengthen our communities, and ensure that no one is left behind,” she added.

She concluded her message by extending warm wishes to Nigerians and people around the world on the occasion.
