Brazil have handed their iconic No. 10 shirt to Raphinha, officially replacing Neymar as the team’s new wearer of the famous jersey.
The Brazilian Football Confederation confirmed the change in its latest squad announcement, with Raphinha switching from No. 11.
The Barcelona forward takes over the shirt after Neymar’s 16-year spell and record 79 international goals.
Raphinha said his move into a central attacking role has been gradual over the past two years and believes it is working well.
“My transition to striker was a gradual process over the last two years. I like it because it’s working wonderfully,” he said. The 28-year-old is expected to make his first appearance in the No. 10 shirt when Brazil face Australia in Townsville on Friday.
The change marks the beginning of a new chapter for Raphinha as he takes on one of the biggest responsibilities in Brazilian football.
