Liverpool booked their place in the next round of the Carabao Cup after defeating Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 at Anfield on Wednesday night.
The Reds took the lead in the 21st minute through Alexis Mac Allister, who finished confidently to give the home side a deserved advantage before the break.
Liverpool doubled their lead nine minutes into the second half when Cody Gakpo found the back of the net to put the hosts firmly in control.
Tottenham responded in the 69th minute as Conor Gallagher pulled one back to raise hopes of a comeback.
However, Liverpool remained composed and sealed the victory deep into stoppage time when Dominik Szoboszlai scored in the 91st minute to make it 3-1.
The result sends Liverpool into the next round of the competition, while Tottenham’s Carabao Cup journey comes to an end.
The defeat also extends Spurs’ long wait for a League Cup victory at Anfield, with their last success in the competition at the stadium dating back to 2006.
