Arsenal’s teenage sensation Max Dowman scored twice as the Gunners defeated Ipswich Town 4-2 at Portman Road on Wednesday night to advance to the next round of the Carabao Cup.
The 16-year-old opened the scoring in the seventh minute before grabbing his second just two minutes into the second half, producing a composed display that underlined his growing reputation.
Dowman, a product of Arsenal’s Hale End academy, was the standout performer as Mikel Arteta’s side dominated much of the contest.
Noni Madueke increased Arsenal’s advantage before Mikel Merino made it 4-0 in the 58th minute to put the visitors firmly in control.
Ipswich responded through Anis Mehmeti in the 62nd minute, while Chuba Akpom added a late consolation goal in stoppage time, but the hosts were unable to stage a comeback.
The victory extends Arsenal’s impressive start to the season, with Dowman’s two-goal performance emerging as the biggest talking point of the night.
