West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has appointed Mr. Suleiman Kum as the new Head of its Nigeria National Office, succeeding Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut, who was recently appointed Registrar of the council.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos by WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, Mrs. Moyosola Adesina.
According to the statement, Kum joined WAEC on July 17, 1998, as an Assistant Registrar II and steadily rose through the ranks to become Senior Deputy Registrar in 2024. Before his appointment, he served as Deputy Registrar in the Office of the Head of National Office.
During his nearly three decades with the examination body, Kum held several strategic positions, including Director of Administration, Zonal Coordinator in Port Harcourt and Ikeja, Head of the Security Printing Department, and Branch Controller in Gusau and Kano.
He also served as Senior Deputy Registrar in charge of Test Administration from September 2025 to August 2026, overseeing critical aspects of test development, examination administration, examination security, and branch and zonal office operations.
WAEC said Kum championed several administrative and technological innovations, including the introduction of Variable Data Printing and enhanced security features in the council’s security printing process. He also led the deployment of facial recognition biometric devices to replace the council-wide attendance system and played a key role in the successful delivery of Achievement Tests through the Computer-Based Examination (CBE) mode.
Born on October 16, 1970, in Minna, Niger State, Kum hails from Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
He holds a Bachelor of Agriculture in Animal Production with Second Class Upper Division from the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, obtained in 1992. He later taught at Baptist High School, Jos, between 1995 and 1998, serving as Form Master, Labour Master, Classroom Teacher and Health Master.
WAEC noted that Kum has received numerous commendations and awards for his outstanding contributions to the council. He has also participated in several national and international training programmes, conferences and symposia, including in the United Kingdom.
