FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has urged Germany to partner with the Federal Capital Territory Administration in developing agriculture, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), and youth skills programmes.
Wike made the appeal on Tuesday when the German Ambassador to Nigeria, Stefan Rössel, visited him in Abuja.
He said Nigeria and Germany share decades of strong economic, cultural, and political relations that should be expanded through strategic partnerships.
The minister said the FCT Administration is working to transform Abuja into a world-class capital city that can compete with cities like Berlin, Munich, and Washington, D.C.
Wike said the administration has improved security, upgraded infrastructure, and created a better environment for investors and diplomatic missions.
He noted that Abuja had previously lost some of its original capital city identity but said ongoing projects were changing the situation.
The minister also defended the economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, including efforts to strengthen security through decentralisation and state policing.
Wike acknowledged the current economic difficulties but urged Nigerians to be patient, saying reforms would bring long-term benefits.
The German ambassador praised the growing relationship between both countries and expressed willingness to deepen cooperation with the FCT.
Rössel commended the visible development in Abuja, saying the reforms being implemented by the Nigerian government require time to deliver results.
He said Germany and European Union member states were ready to support the FCT in areas such as urban planning, infrastructure, and city governance.
The ambassador added that Germany would continue to support Nigeria’s economic and security initiatives.
