The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other political leaders to stop focusing on the 2027 general elections and give urgent attention to the worsening insecurity across Nigeria, saying the country is facing one of its greatest security crises.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Prof. T. A. Muhammad-Baba, the forum said the rising killings, kidnappings and destruction of communities show that the government’s response has fallen short of what Nigerians expect.

The ACF said armed groups now operate freely in many parts of the country, attacking villages, forcing people from their homes and creating fear among citizens.

It lamented that while many Nigerians continue to lose their lives and livelihoods, political office holders appear more concerned about the next election than the safety of the people.

The forum described the situation as frightening, warning that the continued insecurity threatens the unity and stability of the country.

It also criticised President Tinubu’s Independence Day broadcast, saying insecurity received only brief attention despite the scale of the crisis facing many communities.

The ACF expressed concern over the continued captivity of many abducted Nigerians, including children in Borno and Kwara states, although it welcomed the rescue of children recently kidnapped in Oyo State.

The forum said frequent attacks in Zamfara, Plateau, Taraba, Benue, Niger, Katsina and Kogi states, as well as rising kidnappings in Kaduna, especially around Chikun Local Government Area, show that insecurity is spreading to more communities.

It also cited the abduction of prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members travelling to Imo State as another reminder that no part of the country is completely safe.

According to the ACF, Nigerians deserve more than repeated promises, insisting that protecting lives and property remains the primary responsibility of every government.

The forum questioned how many more people must be killed or abducted before stronger action is taken, urging leaders to put national security above political ambitions.

“Now is the time to stop the politics and end the killings,” the ACF declared, calling on the Federal Government to take decisive and sustained measures to restore peace and rebuild public confidence.
