Chelsea forward Joao Pedro has been named the Premier League Player of the Month for August following an outstanding start to his career at Stamford Bridge.
The Brazilian attacker scored two goals and provided two assists in just three league appearances, playing a major role in Chelsea’s impressive start to the new Premier League season.
Pedro produced his best performance in Chelsea’s emphatic 5-1 victory over West Ham United, where he scored once and registered two assists. He followed it up with another goal in the Blues’ 2-0 win over Fulham.
His early displays have made him a key player in Xabi Alonso’s new-look Chelsea side. Pedro’s ability to lead the attack or drop into deeper positions has added creativity and flexibility to the team’s forward play.
The Brazilian has also developed an exciting understanding with Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers, with the trio already forming one of Chelsea’s biggest attacking threats.
The Player of the Month award marks another milestone in Pedro’s remarkable start since joining Chelsea from Brighton.
He has also entered the club’s record books, becoming only the fourth Chelsea player in the Premier League era to score five goals in his first five starts for the club, matching the achievements of Diego Costa, Alvaro Morata and Tammy Abraham.
With Chelsea beginning a new chapter under Alonso, Pedro’s blistering start has strengthened belief that the Brazilian could become the club’s long-term attacking leader.
