The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has begun investigating a businesswoman, Stella Ezinne Egotanwa, over an alleged N8.29 million job scam in Enugu.

The Commission said she allegedly collected money from 21 job seekers with promises of securing employment at the Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu.

According to the EFCC, the victims paid a total of N8,291,200 between December 2025 and June 2026. Sixteen of the victims first reported the matter to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The NSCDC arrested the 45-year-old suspect in Anambra State on July 30, 2026, and later transferred her to the EFCC for investigation.

During the investigation, five more victims came forward with similar complaints. One petitioner said he paid N1.05 million after believing the job offer was genuine but never got the promised employment.

He added that the suspect later became difficult to reach and stopped responding to calls and messages.

The EFCC said its investigation showed the suspect allegedly received the money through several Point of Sale (POS) agents’ accounts.

The Commission also disclosed that Egotanwa is already awaiting trial in another alleged employment scam case.

EFCC said the suspect admitted to the offence and will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
