The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced October 6, 2026, as the date for a World Press Conference and National Stakeholders’ Meeting to brief Nigerians on preparations for the 2027 General Election.
The electoral body made the announcement in a post on its official X handle on Wednesday, saying the event marks the beginning of the final 100-day countdown to the first ballot of the 2027 polls.
According to the commission, the meeting will hold at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja by 10:00 a.m. and will be attended by political parties, the media, security agencies, civil society organisations, religious leaders, development partners, the diplomatic community and other invited stakeholders.
INEC said its Chairman, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, will address participants and provide updates on the commission’s preparations for the general election.
The commission stated: “As preparations intensify for the 2027 General Election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) invites political parties, the media, security agencies, civil society organisations, religious leaders, development partners, the diplomatic community and other stakeholders to a World Press Conference and National Stakeholders Meeting marking the 100-day milestone to the first ballot.”
It further said: “The event will be addressed by the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, and will provide an opportunity to engage Nigerians and key stakeholders on preparations for the 2027 General Election.”
The meeting is expected to strengthen collaboration between the electoral umpire and major stakeholders while providing fresh information on the commission’s level of preparedness for the conduct of the elections.
INEC has consistently engaged political parties, security agencies and civil society groups ahead of major elections, saying broad stakeholder participation remains essential to ensuring free, fair, peaceful and credible polls across the country.
